Our Approach

At Twin Cities Counseling, we believe therapy doesn't have to suck. Life is tangly enough sometimes and for a handful of us, the last thing we need is to unpack the depths of our childhood looking for a ‘Eureka!’ moment that seldom seems to come. We got to this point however we got to this point and the most important question isn’t ‘why?’ but rather, ‘now what do we want to do about it?

With evidence-based treatments, we aim to help people understand the reason their feelings exist in the first place, pull back the curtain on how their responses to those feelings are helping or hurting in the long run, and then adjust those responses to create meaningful change. Because if you’ve tried to just think your way out of a problem before and found yourself even deeper in, you’ll know what I mean when I say it’s hard to think our way to change. Turns out, those automatic negative thoughts have home-field advantage in our brains. It’s by changing our relationship to our thoughts and learning the function of our emotions that we can learn to work with them (and start to dismantle them), rather than trying to fight against them. Because if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’ve tried that already and… well, you’re still reading this. Therapy is a lot of work, and it’s totally worth it.
